As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide invaluable support and guidance to patients, drawing upon your own lived experience to foster hope, resilience, and recovery. You will work collaboratively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to create a supportive and empowering environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide empathetic and non-judgmental support to patients navigating mental health challenges within a forensic context.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and individual sessions, creating a safe space for sharing experiences and building connections.
  • Assist patients in developing coping mechanisms, self-management strategies, and personal recovery plans.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care and support for patients.
  • Promote patient empowerment by encouraging self-advocacy and active participation in their treatment journey.
Essential Requirements:
  • Demonstrable lived experience of forensic mental health services and/or involvement with the criminal justice system.
  • Personal experience of mental health challenges and engagement with mental health services.
  • A strong commitment to recovery and a passion for supporting others on their journey.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Requirements:
  • Mental Health or Health and Social Care related qualification.
  • Completion of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) or similar self-management techniques.
  • Experience in facilitating peer support groups or workshops.
