SEN Support Assistant – Chorlton

Teaching Personnel is in search of a committed and empathetic SEN Support Assistant to contribute to an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Chorlton. This full-time role is designed to provide essential support to students with special educational needs (SEN) within the educational environment.

Position Overview:

As an SEN Support Assistant, your contribution will be crucial in aiding students with SEN across various educational settings. Your main focus will be to collaborate closely with these students, facilitating their access to the curriculum, fostering essential skills, and helping them realize their full potential. You will work alongside educators, SEN Coordinators, and additional support personnel to deliver customized assistance tailored to each student's unique requirements.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Support: Offer dedicated one-on-one support to students with SEN, guiding them through daily activities, assisting with tasks, and clarifying lessons. Your role will be pivotal in helping these students overcome educational challenges and build self-confidence.
  • Classroom Assistance: Engage within the classroom to help manage SEN students, ensuring they remain engaged and supported during lessons. This includes aiding with differentiated instruction and modifying materials to accommodate individual learning preferences.
  • Small Group Facilitation: Lead or assist in small group sessions aimed at enhancing social skills, communication, and academic proficiency. These activities will be specifically designed to meet the needs of the participating students.
  • Behavioral Guidance: Support the management of behavioral challenges, implementing strategies that encourage positive behavior and assist students in regulating their emotions. Collaboration with the SEN Coordinator and pastoral team will be essential to address ongoing issues.
  • Personal Assistance: When necessary, provide support with personal care tasks, ensuring that all students are treated with dignity and respect. This may involve assistance with feeding, mobility, or hygiene, depending on individual student needs.
  • Collaboration with Educational Staff: Work closely with classroom teachers, SEN Coordinators, and other staff members to monitor student progress, share insights, and adjust support strategies as needed. You will be an integral part of the team dedicated to fostering a supportive learning atmosphere for all students.
  • Engagement with Families: Maintain consistent communication with parents and guardians, providing updates on their child's progress and collaborating to support the student's development both in school and at home.
  • Documentation: Keep precise records of the support provided, including daily logs, progress reports, and any incidents that may occur. You will be responsible for documenting the effectiveness of interventions and contributing to the overall assessment of student progress.
  • Professional Growth: Engage in training and development opportunities offered by the school and Teaching Personnel. This position presents an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with SEN students in a secondary school context, with potential pathways for career advancement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or young individuals with SEN is highly desirable.
  • A background in education, psychology, or a related discipline is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Strong communication abilities and the capacity to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a dedication to supporting the educational and personal growth of students with SEN.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to addressing the needs of students.

Advantages:

  • Competitive weekly pay ranging from £419.25 to £500.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of students with SEN.
  • Potential for the role to transition into a permanent position, offering opportunities for career development within the school.
  • Access to professional development and training through Teaching Personnel.

If you are dedicated to supporting students with special educational needs and are seeking a fulfilling role within a nurturing educational environment, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
