An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the Emergency Department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279). This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of clinical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the effective management and movement of patients through the emergency acute care areas. This will involve utilising clinical relationships, staff, and available resources to ensure that patients receive a high standard of specialist nursing care. The post holder will also be responsible for ensuring excellence through clinical care, managing, teaching, and encouraging professional development for all staff.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and maintain effective communications with all members of the public, including challenging behaviour, aggressive behaviour, learning disability, mental illness, extremely emotive/sensitive patients, intoxicated, paediatrics of all ages, and bereavement.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to encourage learning and improvement and to ensure adoption of evidence-based practice.
- Adapt interpersonal and communication skills to multiple and/or simultaneous situations on a daily basis.
- Communicate professionally and effectively in a hostile, antagonistic, or highly emotive atmosphere/environment.
- Lead on communication for the department on a shift-to-shift basis across a multi-disciplinary team, undertaking a key role with external agencies on a daily basis.
- Work in conjunction with the Band 7 Practice Development Nurse, Matron, and the senior nursing team to promote delivery of the highest standards of professional nursing care to acutely ill patients and those presenting to the Emergency Department and UTC.
