University Hospitals Dorset is seeking a dedicated Lead Clinical Fellow in Hematology to join our esteemed Cancer Care team. The successful candidate will primarily work within hospital wards, gaining diverse experiences while participating in on-call duties.
This role has been designed to enhance the newly structured hematology service, ensuring a robust team is in place to deliver exceptional patient care.
The post holder will collaborate with various levels of staff, assisting with ward rounds, patient admissions, and outpatient clinics.
Main Responsibilities- Conduct patient clerking and administrative tasks, including documentation in patient records.
- Perform patient evaluations and assessments.
- Manage drug prescriptions and discharge processes.
- Regularly update patient management systems.
- Participate in outpatient clinics and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
- Triage patients to appropriate medical teams or acute care physicians as necessary.
- Address patient concerns on the ward.
- Engage in ward rounds and participate in the hematology on-call shift system.
This position typically involves standard working hours from 09:00 to 17:00, in addition to on-call responsibilities.

The Hematology department is consolidating inpatient services at the acute site while maintaining outpatient services throughout the Trust.
Detailed Job Description and ResponsibilitiesThe Hematology department at University Hospitals Dorset is supported by a team of 16 Hematology Consultants, alongside junior colleagues, junior clinical fellows, and Physician Associates.
Candidate RequirementsEssential Criteria:
- Full GMC Registration
- Commitment to Safe Practice
- Understanding of service needs
- Knowledge of patient safety and data protection principles
- Effective communication skills
- Aware of personal limitations and ability to manage stressful situations
- Ability to prioritize clinical responsibilities
Desirable Criteria:
- Understanding of basic audit principles
- Previous experience in Hematology
- Passion for Hematology and a desire to expand knowledge in the specialty
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations
Fitness to Practice:
- Must be current and fit to practice safely
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 4 months NHS experience
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience
- Demonstrated successful completion of foundation competencies
- Desirable: At least 6 months of experience in Cancer Care specialties, including Hematology and Oncology
