Upholding the Social Model of Disability, the organization is committed to fostering inclusive and accessible practices both internally and in all its outreach efforts. They actively promote the engagement and contributions of their members while honoring diversity.
This medium-sized charity operates with a Board of Trustees and a dedicated team of 24 staff members, supplemented by a robust network of volunteers, many of whom have firsthand experience with disability. Their collective mission is to dismantle the barriers faced by disabled individuals.
Services Offered
The organization delivers five primary services: Youth, Employment, Welfare Benefits, Independent Living, and Direct Payments.
Welfare Benefits Service Overview
The Welfare Benefits Service offers complimentary, independent guidance and support to all disabled residents and their caregivers within the borough. This service caters to individuals of all ages, including parents and guardians of disabled children.
The organization provides free advice and assistance, extending to Tribunal level, on all Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) benefits, Tax Credits, and select local authority benefits.
Key Responsibilities of the Welfare Benefits Advisor
- Deliver high-quality advice and casework in Welfare Benefits, including representation at 1st Tier Tribunals for disabled individuals.
- Draft Mandatory Reconsideration requests and, in select cases, prepare appeal submissions.
- Conduct direct welfare advice and casework.
- Maintain accurate records of work using the organization's electronic Welfare Benefits Recording and Information System and Excel.
- Collect data to monitor and assess the service's effectiveness.
- Assist in preparing funding applications and tender bids by providing essential information to the Fund Raising Manager and other relevant personnel.
- Contribute to the creation of Welfare Benefits-related promotional materials, reports for the Board of Trustees, and other necessary documentation.
- This role requires travel for home visits and other necessary locations.

- Exhibit proficiency in computer use and be administratively self-sufficient.
