Position Overview: GLL is seeking a dedicated Library Support Specialist to become an integral part of our team at the HMP Parc Library, contributing 24 hours per week. In this role, you will manage operations across three busy on-site prisoner libraries, facilitating access to a diverse range of collections and resources, including literature, digital tools, and reference materials.
About HM Prison Parc: HM Prison Parc is a Category B men's private prison and Young Offenders Institution located in Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan, Wales. Operated by G4S, it is the sole privately managed prison in Wales, accommodating approximately 1800 inmates.
Library Utilization: Our libraries serve multiple purposes for the incarcerated individuals. We provide a selection of legal texts and documentation to assist prisoners in comprehending their sentences, alongside a broad array of standard library materials. With a strong emphasis on education, we cater to many prisoners who face literacy challenges or are eager to acquire new skills, such as learning a foreign language. Regardless of their motivations, our library serves as a valuable respite from prison life. You will engage with a diverse population of prisoners across various housing units, requiring both independent work and collaboration with security-cleared individuals to deliver our services effectively. Acknowledging and adapting to the diverse needs of our clientele is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive information services to library users.
- Maintain a welcoming environment, greeting and assisting all visitors to maximize their library experience.
- Support patrons with IT-related inquiries.
- Facilitate library programs and activities.
- Engage fully in training and development opportunities.
Essential Qualifications:
- Experience in library settings or customer service roles.
