Job Overview

Become a vital member of our Environment and Sustainability Team at NHSBSA as a Sustainability Consultant.

This position presents a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to assist in the formulation and execution of the NHSBSA Environment Strategy and its associated action plan.

You will take charge of significant components, including the upkeep and advancement of our comprehensive Environmental Management System, which is certified to ISO14001.

Main Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Environment and Sustainability Lead to develop and implement the NHSBSA environment strategy.
• Partner with the Estates Senior Management Team to design and manage the organization’s carbon management strategy.
• Maintain and improve the NHSBSA’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
• Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, codes of practice, and government mandates.
• Create and enforce environmental and sustainability policies, procedures, guidance, and systems.
• Develop the NHSBSA environmental reporting framework to evaluate and monitor the performance against environmental targets, overseeing the organization’s reporting processes.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

As a Sustainability Consultant, you will manage an Environmental Management System, comprehend environmental legal obligations and government mandates, develop and implement a carbon management strategy, and collaborate with estates teams on carbon management.

Additionally, you will possess knowledge and experience in carbon accounting and the measurement/monitoring of environmental performance. You will also be responsible for implementing and reporting on government mandates such as the Greening Government Commitments.

Essential Criteria

1. Degree level education (or equivalent experience/qualification) in a relevant field. 2. Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable Criteria

1. Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field. 2. Membership in IEMA or another recognized professional body.

Knowledge

1. Working knowledge of environmental and sustainability laws, policies, and standards. 2. Understanding of best practices related to environmental and sustainability issues. 3. Familiarity with Environmental Management Systems (e.g., ISO). 4. Knowledge of carbon accounting standards and greenhouse gas emission reduction. 5. Ability to evaluate potential legal risks and make informed judgments regarding issues that may adversely affect the organization from environmental and sustainability perspectives. 6. Experience in leading meetings and large forums. 7. Excellent communication skills: ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, managers, and external organizations. 8.
