About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Estates Strategy Officer to join our team at the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero. As an Estates Strategy Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the development and implementation of our estate strategy, working closely with colleagues across the department and with our partner organisations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the Estates Strategy and Sustainability team across a range of work streams, including strategy, plans, assurance, and operations.
  • Lead on the collection, coordination, and management of data information for property and sustainability activities, including assurance commissions such as the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP) and the State of the Estate (SofTE).
  • Support the property professionalisation of the ICS Estates and Sustainability Team in line with the Government Property Profession (GPP) and Government Property Strategy (GPS) plans.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a joint location plan for the departments and ICS.
  • Support partner organisation engagement through stakeholder management, coordination of requests for information, and assurance.
  • Identify and optimise communication opportunities and activities related to estates from strategy to assurance, working closely with DSIT and DESNZ Internal Communications colleagues and others.
  • Provide administrative support to relevant groups, including the partner organisation forum, and other meetings/groupings arranged by the team.
  • Assist with the coordination and delivery of the E&S team's Learning and Development (L&D) programme and activities.
  • Support the roll-out of property training for staff across the department and partner organisations, and the coordination of responses to Freedom of Information requests and Parliamentary Questions (PQs) for Estates Strategy and occasionally Sustainability.
Requirements
  • A self-starter, able to utilise own initiative and abilities to coordinate and track progress against a diverse range of topics to support the team in meeting its objectives and targets.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills with a focused approach, able to balance demands efficiently and stay on top of the job.
  • Able to work collaboratively and build effective links with colleagues at all levels within the team, across other teams in the department, and with the department's partner organisations / Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs) and other key stakeholders.
  • The ability to communicate and influence effectively, both verbally and in writing, to gain support for initiatives and to enable efficient implementation of related policies.
  • Strong, demonstrable time management skills to ensure that objectives are met within required time frames.
  • A flexible approach and able to adapt and react quickly and positively to changing demands and agendas.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, also potentially Power BI, especially those related to data management and communications.

Working Arrangements

The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
