Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scrub Practitioner to join our theatre team at New Medical Systems Ltd. As a key member of our ophthalmic theatre team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our eye surgery services.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide competent scrub provision, supporting the surgeon through the daily theatre list, anticipating potential problems and resolving them.
  • Set up the theatre for vitrectomy surgery, with a full understanding of Phaco Instrumentation and working knowledge of Biometry/Lens bank/Implants.
  • Manage clinical waste and ensure correct disposal procedures are implemented.
  • Undertake medicine management and audit duties, as well as maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Support the surgeon during theatre problem-solving and issue resolution.
  • Train and coach others in theatre procedures and protocols.
  • Participate in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest clinical practices and technologies.

Requirements

  • Be a fully qualified Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner, with current registration with the NMC or HCPC.
  • Have previous experience in a theatre setting, preferably in ophthalmology.
  • Have a strong understanding of Phaco Instrumentation and Biometry/Lens bank/Implants.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume theatre environment.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Be a competent user of computer systems and programmes.
  • Have a good understanding of clinical practice and current developments in Optometry.
