Materials Scientist

This position is based at Culham, Oxfordshire, and involves working on fusion materials challenges. The successful candidate will have a chemistry and corrosion background and be able to contribute to the development of materials for fusion energy.
The role requires the ability to organize and coordinate projects, arrange specimen and data procurement, and deliver high-quality research or engineering in the field of nuclear materials.
The position involves working with radioactive materials and requires the ability to compile and present results within technical reports, at scientific conferences, and through the publication of high-quality research articles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and development in the field of nuclear materials.
- Collaborate with external partners to complement UKAEA's internal capability.
- Contribute to the development and positive reinforcement of UKAEA's knowledge base, design rules, and practices in the area of materials & nuclear physics research and development.
- Propose and secure funding for novel projects aligned with internal strategy.
Essential Requirements:
- At least a four-year degree in material science or equivalent.
- Postgraduate research in materials science demonstrated either through work experience in the materials field in industry or a MSc/PhD degree.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated and capable of working in a team.
