Job Summary

The Failsafe Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Ophthalmology service by ensuring patients are managed within established guideline timescales. This position will serve as the interface between clinicians, supporting staff, and patients to develop and manage the overall patient pathway.

Main Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the patient clinical pathway for individual patients, ensuring seamless transitions and timely interventions.
  • Maintain a patient tracking system to monitor and ensure full compliance with patient pathway and treatments within defined guidelines.
  • Liaise closely with clinicians, service managers, ophthalmic nurses, medical secretaries, and appointment staff to plan and undertake new patient clinics and assessments within defined timelines.
  • Ensure the integrity of the Patient Administration System (PAS) is maintained through reconciliation and validation of patient event data held on other systems.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Monitor and report on patient pathway compliance and treatment timelines.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and service managers to identify areas for improvement and implement changes to maintain a fully compliant service.
  • Provide regular updates on patient pathways and tracking compliance to Trust clinicians, managers, and PCT representatives.
Requirements
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work autonomously, often under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with clinicians, service managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills to coordinate patient pathways and ensure compliance.
