About the Role
The Vision Support Team is seeking a dedicated and passionate Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired. We invite applications from professionals holding the PGDip/MA Mandatory Qualification for Teachers of Children and Young People with Visual Impairment, along with experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The Vision Support Service comprises a collaborative team of Qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (QTVIs), Resource Technicians, Assistive Technology Specialists, and Practitioners.
The successful candidate will manage a caseload of visually impaired children across various environments, including mainstream and special educational institutions, nurseries, and home settings. Responsibilities will encompass assessment, direct instruction in braille, and fostering visual awareness, knowledge, skills, and understanding through guidance, support, and training for families, educational institutions, early years settings, and colleges.
A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is mandatory for this position.
About You
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- A degree-level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status, along with the mandatory qualification in the education of visually impaired children and additional training in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disability.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, enabling positive relationships with students, parents, and other professionals, and the ability to establish effective working partnerships across diverse educational settings.
- Understanding and experience in addressing the needs of visually impaired children in both mainstream and special educational environments, as well as providing support to preschool children and families in their homes. This includes knowledge of effective teaching methodologies, assistive technology, and delivering training to enhance the attainment and inclusion of SEND pupils, particularly those diagnosed with visual impairment.
- Experience and proficiency in teaching alternative tactile mediums, including braille and assistive technology that facilitates access to learning.
- Significant experience working in accordance with relevant statutory and local policies and procedures for SEND, with the ability to perform all duties in alignment with safeguarding policies and procedures.
- The capability to actively demonstrate the values of the authority: Positivity, Trust and Respect, Flexibility, Openness, and Transparency.
- The ability to perform all duties with reasonable adjustments, where applicable, in accordance with the provisions of the Equality Act 2010, including travel to various educational settings.
