Consultant in Pediatric Immunology

We are seeking applications for a Consultant position in Pediatric Immunology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will become a vital member of a team of specialists providing advanced Pediatric care for children with both primary and secondary Immunodeficiency disorders. Additionally, the consultant will collaborate with a broader team of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Immunology specialists, sharing responsibilities for out-of-hours services.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess full GMC Registration, a valid license to practice, and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Candidates trained in the UK should provide evidence of higher specialist training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of confirmed entry from the date of the interview. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training qualifications.

This position is offered as a full-time role on a 10 Programmed Activities (PA) basis; however, applications from individuals seeking part-time or job-sharing arrangements will also be considered.

Main Responsibilities

This is a substantive full-time consultant role, and the post holder will be integral to the Immunology department. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing significant contributions to both inpatient and outpatient immunology services.
  • Engaging in outpatient clinical duties.
  • Participating in relevant multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Contributing to the education and training of medical staff and nursing personnel.
  • Assisting in the long-term follow-up service for Immunology post-transplant patients.
  • Familiarizing oneself with the operational aspects of an NHS hospital trust.

Essential Qualifications

  • GMC specialist registration with a License to Practice.
  • MRCP, MRCPCH, or equivalent qualifications.
  • CCT/CCST or equivalent training and experience.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Higher degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent).

Experience and Skills

Essential experience includes:

  • Extensive background in Immunology and Infectious Diseases, along with general pediatrics.
  • A minimum of two years of full-time hospital service in pediatrics.
  • Experience in an NHS Hospital Trust.
  • Teaching experience with students and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership in Clinical Audit processes.
  • Published research in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance and participation in quality improvement projects.
  • Ability to manage critically ill infants and children.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience in Stem Cell Transplantation and Gene Therapy.
  • Recruitment of patients for clinical research trials.
  • Experience in shared care clinics and clinical networks.
  • Clinical leadership or management experience.
