Job Title: Physics Instructional Lab Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Physics Instructional Lab Manager to provide pedagogical, instructional, technical, organizational, and logistical support to the instructional laboratories for the introductory physics courses at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up laboratory equipment for introductory physics laboratories with the assistance of graduate teaching assistants and peer learning assistants.
  • Maintain introductory physics laboratory rooms, associated preparation rooms, and demonstration room.
  • Ensure the maintenance, organization, repair, and/or replacement of introductory physics laboratory equipment, computers, and software.
  • Schedule introductory laboratory experiments and makeup sessions in coordination with the associated faculty and the Department Office.
  • Assist with the supervision and training of Graduate Teaching Assistants and Peer Learning Assistants in their work in the introductory laboratories.
  • Participate in the creation of new laboratory exercises with faculty, including evaluation and testing of new laboratory activities.
  • Support the Departmental and WPI outreach activities.
  • Help create, maintain, and update the introductory laboratory manuals, including electronic versions for dissemination on the Learning Management System.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • An advanced degree in Physics is preferred, but candidates with a Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Physics or a closely related field with suitable experience will also receive full consideration.
  • Familiarity with common undergraduate laboratory equipment.
  • Preference for some education experience or with operations of undergraduate science laboratories.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
