Job Title: Ward Manager

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Ward Manager to join our team at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for managing the care pathway for young people at The Darwin Centre from referral to discharge.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage commissioning arrangements, bed management, and case load management for the team.
  • Ensure effective communication with families, referrers, and external agencies.
  • Lead a team of clinical staff in the delivery of high-quality evidence-based practice.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive and collaborative care plans for children and families.
  • Oversee and support the team's management of clinical risk and provide advice and guidance when necessary.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of observations and assessments to inform child protection procedures.
  • Maintain systems for staff support and supervision.
  • Be accountable for own professional practice and maintain standards described in own profession's code of conduct, legislation, government guidelines, trust policies, and research.
Requirements:
  • Professional qualification in Nursing.
  • Current registration with the NMC.
  • Post-graduate qualification or significant experience related to child, adolescent, or family mental health.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Management qualification.
  • Training in supervision.
  • Physical intervention training.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to organise, lead, and motivate others from a range of disciplines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and rational in difficult, challenging, and distressing circumstances.
  • Ability to manage capability and disciplinary issues within the staff team effectively.
Knowledge and Understanding:
  • Knowledge of implementing MHA in practice.
  • An excellent working knowledge of current legislation related to this area.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of working with child protection concerns and procedures.
