Practice Nurse

We are seeking a highly motivated and committed Registered Nurse to join our team at Acorn Surgery, a forward-thinking and family-friendly organization.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients, adhering to all Practice protocols and policies.
- Assist GPs and other healthcare professionals in delivering patient care.
- Perform routine nursing tasks, including immunizations, cervical screening, wound management, and chronic disease management.
- Maintain accurate electronic clinical health care records.
- Work collaboratively with the team to promote health and wellbeing, and encourage educational opportunities.
- Clinical Duties
- Undertake immunization and vaccination programs, including administering injections under prescription or Patient Group Direction.
- Ensure safe storage, rotation, and disposal of vaccines and drugs.
- Work with administrative staff to promote public health-related immunization programs.
- Perform wound care using aseptic technique, including suturing and clip removal.
- Assist clinicians with minor surgery procedures.
- Cervical Screening and Women's Health
- Advise patients on cervical cytology and mammography screening programs.
- Undertake cervical cytology sampling under supervision.
- Promote breast self-awareness and provide supporting literature.
- Advise patients on reducing the risk of sexually transmitted diseases and make referrals as necessary.
- Cardiovascular Disease
- Contribute to the implementation of the National Service Framework.
- Maintain the Practice CHD register.
- Advise patients on lifestyle management and drug compliance for reducing cardiovascular risk factors.
- Infection Control
- Support patients and colleagues in adopting sound infection control measures.
- Apply infection control measures according to local and national guidelines.

- Experience of chronic disease management.
- Experience of working autonomously.
- Experience of infection prevention and control measures.

- Experience of working as a practice nurse or community nurse.
- Experience of managing elderly and housebound patients.
- Experience of quality initiatives and benchmarking.

- Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council).

- Mentor or teaching qualification.
- Postgraduate diploma or degree in Chronic Disease Management.
- Nurse prescriber.
- Family planning qualification.

- Wound care and removal of sutures and staples.

- Understanding evidence-based practice.
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes.

- Immunizations (routine, childhood, and travel).
