Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly driven Head of Chemical Engineering Operations, responsible for executing a productive experimental agenda and performing engineering calculations and modeling to support process safety, scale-up assessments, crystallization process development, and process enhancement; overseeing scientific initiatives and resources; effectively communicating project results and challenges within the organization; and leading a team of skilled scientists and engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee process safety assessments and related engineering calculations, generating process safety evaluation reports to ensure the secure operation of the manufacturing facility;
  • Develop API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) crystallization processes and scale-up parameters, ensuring solid-state characterization meets specifications and supports successful scale-up; assist in optimizing intermediate crystallization processes and troubleshooting issues.
  • Provide process engineering support for the scale-up of all unit operations, including mixing, heat and mass transfer evaluations, reaction kinetics, distillation, solvent extraction optimization, filtration, and drying evaluations.
  • Drive innovation and leverage resources to implement advanced concepts that enhance work processes and R&D efficiency; contribute to the development of intelligent R&D and manufacturing technologies.
  • Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Collaborate with R&D and operational teams to ensure effective communication and process engineering support; enhance the impact of process engineering expertise on R&D and technology transfer, establishing and refining relevant workflows.
  • Coordinate with R&D and engineering teams across various sites to facilitate cross-site communication and collaboration, providing support for relevant client interactions as necessary.
  • Responsible for training personnel at all levels, which includes designing and delivering training programs, developing assessments and visual aids, conducting training sessions, and creating criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of training initiatives. Stay informed about training and development research, including learning and motivation theories, and develop in-house programs to identify developmental needs and enhance colleagues' effectiveness. May oversee contractors or vendors in developing and administering training programs.
  • Accountable for developing and maintaining departmental quality programs, processes, and procedures that ensure compliance with policies and that the performance and quality of services meet established standards and guidelines.
  • Manage and lead personnel, technological, and financial resources within a specific region for multiple projects and ongoing work activities of moderate complexity.

Experience Requirements - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in chemical or process engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering R&D and at least 5 years in team leadership.
  • Proficient in the principles of reaction kinetics, experimental design, solubility and crystallization, mass transfer, heat transfer, and process safety.
  • Experience in managing scientific personnel.
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills for effective internal and external communication.
