Role: Lead Clinical Fellow in Neurology

Salary Range: Nodal Point 4/5 based on experience £55,329 - £63,152 excluding LZ

Employment Type: Full Time - 40 hours per week

Contract Duration: Fixed Term - 6 months

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist in the delivery of the Neurology service, which includes managing outpatient clinics, conducting daily assessments of in-patients, and addressing ward referrals.
  • Contribute to the overall enhancement of the Neurology service.
  • Engage in clinical and other service-related activities aimed at maintaining a high standard of patient care.
  • Collaborate with medical, nursing, and administrative colleagues to ensure optimal performance in outpatient settings.

On-call Duties:

The incumbent will be part of the general on-call rota.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

The post holder will, in collaboration with colleagues, be accountable for delivering neurology services at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, which includes:

  • Diagnosing and treating patients during face-to-face neurology consultations.
  • Conducting daily evaluations of neurology in-patients.
  • Participating in the registrar on-call rota.

Training Responsibilities:

The post-holder will be responsible for guiding and training junior staff assigned to them, in accordance with the training plan established with their supervising consultant.

Teaching Contributions:

The post-holder is expected to contribute to the education of undergraduate and postgraduate students as appropriate.

Clinical Governance:

All medical and dental staff are required to engage in clinical governance activities, including clinical audits, the development of clinical guidelines and protocols, and clinical risk management. Evidence of contributions in these areas and audits of their clinical work will be expected as part of their annual appraisal.

Appraisal Process:

All medical and dental staff must undergo annual appraisal.

Study Leave:

Study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Clinical Lead, with funding for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) equivalent to that of the appropriate training post.

Post holders must maintain the confidentiality of information regarding patients, staff, and other health service matters in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Unauthorized disclosure of information may result in disciplinary action.

Risk Management Duties:

All post holders are responsible for promptly reporting clinical and non-clinical incidents and familiarizing themselves with the Trust's risk assessment and incident reporting systems.

Post holders have a general responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults during their daily duties.

Sustainability Efforts:

All staff are expected to contribute to minimizing the Trust's environmental impact through recycling, energy conservation, and prompt reporting of faults.

Information Governance Compliance:

All staff must adhere to information governance requirements, including compliance with the Data Protection Act and local policies.

Smoking Policy:

The Trust actively discourages smoking, which is prohibited within Trust buildings and vehicles.
