{"Job Title": "Food Technician", "Job Summary": "We are seeking a skilled and organized Food Technician to join our team at Scottish Borders Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Home Economics department within the school. This will involve working closely with the Home Economics Teachers to ensure health and safety regulations are met and all lessons are fully resourced and prepared for.

Key Responsibilities:

* Preparation of equipment and ingredients for demonstration, class practical work, assessments and examinations.
* Ensuring that utensils and equipment are clean and ready for the start of each lesson.
* Ensuring equipment, electrical connections and other materials are left/stored in a safe and secure condition, ready for re-use.
* Organizing delivery slots for ingredients and consumables in advance and completing a shopping order weekly, flagging any issues with ingredients to the HE teachers.
* Assisting in maintaining records of equipment and materials, including inventories and records of breakages.
* Unpacking and checking orders of equipment and food.
* Purchasing consumables from local shops if required.
* Completing necessary purchasing and finance forms (with Suzanne Cowe).
* Monitoring and managing stock, undertaking audits as required.
* Freezing and defrosting foods as necessary to minimize food wastage.
* Stock rotation.
* Cleaning apparatus as directed and clearing out cupboards etc. to monitor contents and condition of stock.
* Providing cleaning and practical support to the HE teachers between lessons.
* Working on your own initiative and planning and prioritizing your work effectively.
* Laundry.
* Ensuring that fridges, cookers and equipment are kept clean and that a deep clean is undertaken when required.
* Defrosting fridge and freezer when required. Ensuring that all equipment is accounted for, in the correct place and replaced where necessary.
