Role Summary

As part of an Integrated Project Team, you will play a crucial role in the development of composite processes for a cutting-edge program aimed at creating a novel rotor structure. Collaborating closely with the Materials and Process group, you will also engage significantly with Design and Manufacturing teams. Your focus will be on the development and delivery of composite rotor components for testing, emphasizing hands-on process innovation and definition.

In this role, you will assist in the design of new parts and processes, establish production lines for test hardware, and support the manufacturing of test articles. Your responsibilities will include the development and demonstration of individual operations within the proposed process, utilizing low maturity composite materials and technologies, while also providing insights for process enhancements that may boost performance. You will engage in concurrent engineering through iterative prototyping and offer design-for-manufacturing feedback during the part design phase.

The ideal candidate will contribute to the setup of production lines by developing process specifications and documentation, overseeing equipment procurement and commissioning, and designing tooling systems. You will also support the low-rate production of test hardware, providing hands-on assistance on the production line and characterizing produced parts through various techniques (metrology, composite testing, NDT) to ensure process capability and adherence to design intent.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • A relevant Engineering degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Experience in Composite Process Development/Manufacturing, particularly with RTM and dry fiber preforming
  • Proven track record in process improvement initiatives
  • Experience in material development (carbon fabric, resin, adhesive, binder, bond primers)
  • Familiarity with low TRL/MRL technology development
  • Knowledge of Aerospace quality systems in development and/or production, especially in rotatives (engines, rotors)
  • Proficiency in Six Sigma, Lean, or other process control/improvement methodologies
  • Experience in composite part characterization (mechanical testing, microscopy, volume fraction measurement)
  • Knowledge of composite metrology and NDT
  • Experience in Composite Design/Design for Manufacture
  • Tool design expertise, particularly in Catia V5
  • Experience in tool procurement
  • Familiarity with tool rapid prototyping (3D printing, simple machining, composite tooling layup)
