Job Description

Job Summary

The Metrology Process Engineer will be responsible for the creation and execution of inspection processes for complex additive geometries. This individual will successfully design and implement production inspection programs from point cloud data (e.g. 3D scanning, CT, and CMM data) using various industry standard software (e.g. Polyworks, PC-DMIS, etc.). They will be responsible for transitioning programs to offsite resources as well as maintaining and improving existing inspection programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support site metrology priorities and objectives
  • Develop and execute comprehensive training plans for inspection technologies and best practices
  • Establish, incorporate, and proliferate metrology standards and guidelines
  • Design inspection programs for additive hardware and components
  • Transition programs to outside sources and vendors
  • Develop, configure, and optimize industrial processes from inception through to start-up and certification
  • Coordinate with design engineers and manufacturing engineers in aligning additive drawing requirements with NDT technologies, inspection capabilities, and process capability
  • Develop and specify inspection technologies to enable additive complexity in the future
  • Assess processes, take measurements, interpret data, and document results
  • Effectively communicate project outcomes to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Lead projects intended to design, run, test, and upgrade systems and processes
  • Develop best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve technology and processes related to additive inspection and NDT
  • Develop and audit process-specific work instructions
  • Perform risk assessments of additive print dimensioning and quality
  • Provide process documentation and operating instructions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of metrology/inspection experience)
  • Minimum of 3 years of metrology/inspection experience

Desired Characteristics

  • Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis
  • 3+ years of experience with PolyWorks and PC-DMIS programming
  • In-depth knowledge of GD&T measurements and inspection
  • Expert knowledge of point cloud data inspection technologies such as white/blue light and laser scanning
  • Working knowledge of common additive NDT inspection processes such as X-ray, CT, and CMM
  • Working knowledge of additive manufacturing and 3D printing
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD software, especially NX
  • Humble and respectful attitude, with a willingness to learn and adapt
  • Transparent and open communication style, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork
  • Focused and results-driven, with a strong attention to detail
