Volunteer Team Leader

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Volunteer Team Leader to support the Area Operations Manager in the North West region. The successful candidate will provide guidance to a growing number of active volunteers and our in-house team, ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance, conservation, and improvement of the waterway network for local communities and visitors to enjoy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage volunteer groups, task days, and lock keepers to ensure effective and safe delivery of projects.
- Develop and implement volunteering opportunities on locks and other waterway features.
- Deliver training to volunteers in accordance with set standards and ensure they are equipped to perform their roles safely and efficiently.
- Identify opportunities for volunteers and update records of work and time delivered.
- Ensure all equipment is appropriate for the task, in good condition, and used correctly.
- Prepare safe systems of work, induct volunteers onsite, and manage safe delivery.
- Support communication within the team, including sharing relevant corporate messages and providing feedback to the Area Operations Manager.
- Active involvement in day-to-day tasks, including lock keeping, water control, vegetation management, small projects, and planned maintenance.
About You
- Experience of working in a relevant environment, such as volunteering, environmental works, customer service operations, or maintenance.
- Experience of leading a small team and managing volunteers.
- Great organization and prioritizing skills, with the ability to work flexible hours to meet volunteering and business needs.
- Effective and engaging communication skills, with the ability to communicate well with customers, volunteers, and staff at all levels.
- Computer literate, with good knowledge of Microsoft Office package.
- UK Driving license essential.
