Job Overview

The position available is for a Consultant in Substance Misuse Psychiatry, focusing on the London Borough of Haringey. This substantive role is designed to fill a vacancy due to the current postholder's relocation.

The role is situated within the Specialist Services Division, where there is an expectation for active participation in governance and management processes as a senior clinical leader.

The organization is committed to achieving clinical excellence and continuously reviewing service structures to maximize value and efficiency for clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide senior clinical leadership to the team.
  • Oversee the medical care of clients receiving treatment.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings focused on care planning and risk management.
  • Supervise General Practitioners involved in Shared Care arrangements.
  • Mentor core trainees and medical students.
  • Drive team performance and service development.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures regarding professional conduct and competence.

The collaboration between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust has strengthened since its inception, forming a robust North London Mental Health Partnership.

To effectively meet the evolving needs of the partnership services, flexibility in working locations may be required.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Listed on or eligible for the Specialist Register of the GMC Medical Register.
  • Approval under the Mental Health Act.
  • Experience in evidence-based interventions for substance misuse, including psychoeducation, medication, and psychological therapies.
  • Knowledge of the Safeguarding Children Framework.
  • Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care and maintaining staff morale.
  • Participation in medical audits and data management.
  • Registered for Continuing Professional Development with the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  • Experience in publishing within the field of Psychiatry.
  • Management training is preferred.
