Our specialized work at the full-scale fire and explosion test site is pivotal to the worldwide Energy Transition towards a more sustainable and secure future. For nearly five decades, our initiatives have empowered the energy, counter-terrorism, and security sectors to innovate with cutting-edge technologies, while our insights guide and advise the industry, enhancing its capacity to safeguard people, property, and the environment.
Location and Environment:
Located on the picturesque Cumbrian border with Northumbria, Spadeadam offers a unique opportunity to live and work in one of the UK's most beautiful regions. You can choose to reside in charming local villages or market towns, or in the vibrant cities of Carlisle or Newcastle, both conveniently close to the stunning Northumberland and Lake District National Parks. Explore two beautiful coastlines and the historic World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall.
Position Overview:
This is not an ordinary position. Our projects are distinctive, large-scale endeavors that frequently involve flammable gases, high explosives, fragmentation, destructive testing, and high-pressure systems.
The nature of our work is diverse, innovative, and challenging. Leveraging extensive experience in major hazard testing, along with DNV's comprehensive knowledge across the global energy sector, DNV Spadeadam is at the forefront of driving the energy transition. With over 5,000 professionals dedicated to assisting our clients and the industry in achieving energy transition goals, our expertise spans the entire energy value chain.
As a project manager, you will play a crucial role in our research and testing initiatives, leading high-profile projects that meet client needs while adhering to time and budget constraints. Our expanding team is instrumental in shaping our project management strategies and standards. You will be key in enhancing efficiency and quality in project delivery.
Your daily responsibilities will vary, encompassing typical project management tasks, client engagement, site progress monitoring, problem-solving within delivery teams, and collaborating with the project management team to ensure the project portfolio remains on schedule.
The unique nature of our work means you will frequently spend time outdoors at Spadeadam, collaborating with our delivery teams and witnessing tests and research firsthand. The projects you support, the environment you work in, and the individuals you interact with make this role unparalleled. While it may not be suited for everyone, the opportunity to contribute to meaningful advancements for people and the planet is significant.
Employee Benefits:
We value our employees and their contributions, which is why we offer a flexible rewards and benefits package tailored to individual needs, including:
- Excellent development and career advancement opportunities
- Non-contractual Profit Share Scheme
- Generous leave policies: 26 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, options for unpaid leave, sabbatical leave, and flexible working arrangements
- Wellbeing benefits, including Private Medical and Dental Insurance, Health Assessments, Gym allowances, and contributions towards eye tests and glasses for computer users. - Financial benefits, including a Pension Scheme with employer contributions up to 9%, Life Assurance, and Income Protection
- Travel benefits, such as a Season Ticket Loan, Cycle to Work Scheme, and Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme
- Reimbursement for relevant Professional Membership Fees (up to £570)
- Access to an employee retail discount site for shopping
As many individuals relocating to join us require assistance, we offer tailored support to help you settle into the local area.
Key Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, you should possess:
- A proven track record of managing complex projects, demonstrating your ability to lead a project team effectively, manage a diverse project portfolio, identify risks, and resolve issues proactively.
- Strong self-motivation and a desire to take ownership of tasks.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Resilience and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at various levels.
- Experience with structured methodologies, ideally holding qualifications such as Prince 2, PMP, or a comparable project management certification (support can be provided).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project, and familiarity with finance applications (e.g., Oracle Finance) is advantageous.
While primarily based at our Research and Testing Centre in Cumbria, this role may require occasional travel within the UK and potentially internationally.
