Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized financial guidance by collaborating with technical experts to enhance financial planning, budgeting, and process optimization.

  • Assist in the formulation and execution of credible financial strategies that align with HMRC's overarching goals and performance metrics.
  • Engage with senior leadership teams, providing constructive challenges that reflect the broader financial landscape of HMRC.
  • Participate from the inception of project ideation, contributing financial insights that support the development and approval of business proposals.
  • Encourage data-driven decision-making by supporting the business in refining its decision processes.
  • Proactively offer coaching and constructive feedback to enhance the financial acumen of both business and finance personnel.
  • Conduct horizon scanning to identify potential financial challenges and assist in crafting viable solutions.
  • Oversee team members and foster leadership capabilities within and across various teams.
  • Champion cultural transformation within CDIO Finance by exemplifying behaviors that inspire and empower colleagues while addressing underperformance.
  • Influence and promote improvements in financial information, innovation, processes, systems, and overall financial proficiency.
  • Collaborate effectively with the HMRC Transformation Portfolio, Programme, and Finance community to drive impactful financial changes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Fully qualified accountant (CCAB, including CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ACA) or equivalent.
  • Exceptional interpersonal abilities with a proven track record of building and sustaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, adept at converting financial data into insightful analysis to support decision-making.
  • Proficient in IT/Excel, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in navigating large and complex organizations.
  • Outstanding collaboration skills, with the ability to assist broader business stakeholders effectively.
  • Confident communicator, skilled in constructively challenging senior leaders and decision-makers.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating strategic thinking and comfort with risk management.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Experience in large-scale transformation initiatives.
  • Prior exposure to IT/Digital functions may be beneficial.
