Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Volunteer Team Leader to support the Area Operations Manager in leading a team of volunteers and in-house staff to maintain, conserve, and improve the environment and heritage of the waterway network for local communities and visitors to enjoy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of volunteers and in-house staff to deliver projects and tasks related to the maintenance, conservation, and improvement of the waterway network.
- Develop and implement volunteering opportunities on locks and other waterway features.
- Provide training and guidance to volunteers in accordance with set standards.
- Identify opportunities for volunteers and update records of work and time delivered.
- Ensure all equipment is appropriate for the task, in good condition, and used correctly.
- Prepare safe systems of work, induct volunteers onsite, and manage safe delivery.
- Support communication within the team, including sharing relevant corporate messages and providing feedback to the Area Operations Manager.
- Active involvement in day-to-day tasks of the team and volunteers, including lock keeping, water control, vegetation management, small projects, planned maintenance, and assisting the Area Operations Manager in planning tasks.
About You:
- Experience of working within a relevant environment, such as volunteering, environmental works, customer service operations, or maintenance.
- Experience of leading a small team.
- Great organization and prioritizing skills.
- Effective and engaging communication skills.
- Computer literate, with good knowledge of Microsoft Office package.
- UK Driving license essential.
- Self-motivated, able to work flexible hours to meet volunteering and business needs, and communicate well with customers, volunteers, and staff at all levels.
