About the Role

The Associate News Editor will be a senior member of our home news editing team, responsible for building and developing a strong pipeline of exclusive news stories that will set the news agenda and attract and retain Telegraph subscribers.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and deliver new angles on stories, and spot stories that other news editors may miss.
  2. Attend key news conferences, present plans to senior editorial staff, and brief the team following the meetings.
  3. Liaise with other departments to ensure best possible coverage and presentation of, and audience for, news stories.
  4. Work with specialist reporters and investigations to craft original ideas into news stories that have impact and are optimized across digital and print.
  5. Edit reporters' stories to promote the strongest news lines.
  6. Develop junior members of newsdesk and reporting staff.
  7. Attend planning meetings, take responsibility for managing and presenting plans to editor and other senior editorial staff.
  8. Have a proven track record of news editing and seeking out and developing exclusive stories in a mainstream national news outlet.
  9. Champion innovative news research and investigation techniques.
  10. Embrace digital content and creative ways to tell news stories to an online audience.
  11. Have a strong ability to write and edit articles clearly, concisely, and to house style.
  12. Have good organizational skills - able to keep multiple projects on track and stakeholders up to date.
  13. Able to motivate others to work to high quality standards under pressure.
  14. Stay abreast of industry developments and regulations.
  15. Address potential conflicts that impact delivery targets and respond to shifting priorities.
  16. Be a skilled and persuasive communicator.
