Job Title: Senior News Editor

As a Senior News Editor at ENGINEERINGUK, you will play a key role in shaping the news agenda and developing exclusive stories that set the tone for our publication. Your primary responsibility will be to work closely with reporters to identify and execute agenda-setting exclusives and longer-lead stories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strong pipeline of exclusive news stories that set the news agenda and attract and retain subscribers
  • Attend key news conferences, present plans to senior editorial staff, and brief the team following the meetings
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure best possible coverage and presentation of news stories
  • Work with specialist reporters and investigations to craft original ideas into news stories that have impact and are optimized across digital and print
  • Responsibility for editing reporters' stories to promote the strongest news lines
  • Develop junior members of the newsdesk and reporting staff
  • Attend planning meetings, take responsibility for managing and presenting plans to the editor and other senior editorial staff

  • A proven track record of news editing and seeking out and developing exclusive stories in a mainstream national news outlet
  • Champions innovative news research and investigation techniques
  • Embraces digital content and creative ways to tell news stories to an online audience
  • Strong ability to write and edit articles clearly, concisely, and to house style
  • Good organizational skills - able to keep multiple projects on track and stakeholders up to date
  • Able to motivate others to work to high quality standards under pressure
  • Stays abreast of industry developments and regulations
  • Addresses potential conflicts that impact delivery targets and responds to shifting priorities
  • Skilled and persuasive communicator
