Job Summary:

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work directly with students who display challenging behaviours, helping them engage with their learning, manage their emotions, and overcome barriers to success. You will provide one-on-one and small group support, working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement behaviour management strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with challenging behaviours, helping them develop emotional regulation and coping strategies.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to support their behavioural, social, and emotional development.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and support Individual Behaviour Plans (IBPs).
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting respectful and productive behaviour.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, encouraging open communication and mutual respect.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff to ensure a consistent and supportive approach to behaviour management across the school.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the teaching team and SENCO.
Essential Requirements:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviours, ideally in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies to support emotional and social development.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with students who exhibit challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to implement behaviour plans and interventions effectively.
  • Adaptability and teamwork skills, with the ability to work flexibly within a school setting to meet the needs of students.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
