About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Scientific Consultant to join our team at GALSON Sciences Limited. As a key member of our nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management team, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality research projects and providing expert advice to our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and Report Writing: Conduct high-quality research and write comprehensive reports on geological disposal of radioactive waste, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Presentations and Workshops: Present research findings to clients and at conferences, and facilitate technical workshops and discussions to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue business opportunities in your areas of expertise, leveraging your knowledge and network to drive growth and revenue.
  • Project Management: Manage projects in accordance with company standards and guidelines, ensuring effective project delivery and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a small team of consultants, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to help them grow and succeed.
Essential Requirements
  • Qualifications: PhD or MSc in quantitative earth sciences, applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, or engineering, or a BSc with proven radioactive waste management experience.
  • Technical Skills: Excellent technical skills, including high-quality proposal writing, project management, and presentation skills.
  • Business Acumen: Strong business development skills, with the ability to identify and pursue opportunities, and manage projects to deliver results.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Nuclear Industry Experience: Experience working in the nuclear industry, particularly in radioactive waste treatment, disposal, options assessment, nuclear safety, and related fields.
  • Modelling and Simulation: Experience with modelling and simulation tools, particularly with respect to site characterisation, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and contaminant transport in geological media.
  • Coding Skills: Proficiency in coding languages, such as Python or C++.
  • Staff Well-being: Experience in staff well-being, including line management or mentoring.
