Transport Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced Transport professional to oversee the operation at our Bolton Depot.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively manage and plan driver and vehicle resources to achieve delivery/collection times and client Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Liaise with the shunting operation to ensure smooth pre-loading and unloading processes.
- Ensure service levels are achieved and maintained in conjunction with other departments.
- Optimise resources and adhere to Working Time Directive (WTD) and drivers' hours legislation.
- Plan driver rotas according to shift patterns and available hours, taking into account holidays and sickness.
- Ensure legal compliance regarding vehicle defects, services, MOTs, and other regulatory requirements.
- Investigate incidents of fleet damage, Road Traffic Incidents (RTIs), and Health and Safety Near Misses (HSNMs), escalating to line managers as necessary.
- Carry out disciplinary hearings, return-to-work meetings, and substance misuse procedures.
- Organise and conduct risk assessments at the depot.
- Pre-brief and de-brief drivers to ensure company standards are maintained.
Requirements:
- Significant knowledge and experience of tachograph and driving rules and regulations.
- CPC National qualification desirable but not essential.
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with high-level numeracy.
- Negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and steer.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
- Knowledge of the Road Transport Directive and current drivers' hours regulations.
- Significant transport experience in the FMCG environment.
