Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Physician in General Medicine to join our team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS. As a key member of our medical staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leading our General Medicine service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the care of inpatients on a General Internal Medicine/Specialty ward
  • Develop standards, procedures, and systems to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient patient care
  • Work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team working in the provision of acute medical care
  • Develop clinical guidelines to ensure best practice for the management of wide-range medical conditions
  • Play a strong role in risk management and governance
  • Participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes
  • Liaise closely within the department, the emergency and acute medical teams, other in-patient teams, and primary and community services to ensure collaborative working arrangements
  • Teach and train junior doctors, Physician Associates, and students
  • Become a qualified educational supervisor and work as Clinical and/or Educational Supervisor to a number of trainees
  • Abide by the Clinical & Corporate Governance policies of the Trust
  • Take part in major incident planning
  • Take part in the administration of the department and the involvement in the management of resources
Person Specification
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCP (Paces)
  • Licence to practice and full registration with GMC
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of completion of CCT at time of interview
  • Advanced Life Support
  • Eligible to work in the UK
Desirable Criteria
  • Postgraduate degree (MSc/PhD)
  • Previous Medicine experience at Consultant level
  • Demonstrate participation in audit and research
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of service improvement

  • Good working relationships with colleagues, including evidence of good team-working and an understanding of the importance of multidisciplinary working in delivery of patient care

  • Ability to work adaptably and manage different clinical areas as part of the on-call team under consultant supervision
