Quarry Operations Manager

The Quarry Manager at Ibstock Plc will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Cattybrook and Shortwood quarries, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental controls, and resource planning. This role is responsible for managing the site's operational team, including contractors, to achieve optimum production levels, quality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure all statutory obligations, company policies, and procedures are understood, applied, and adhered to at all times.
- Manage the quarries' production levels to schedule and in accordance with the quarry plan.
- Interpret geological and ceramic data to inform decision-making.
- Plan and construct stockpiles to meet ceramic specification and challenging volume requirements.
- Manage third-party contractors, company operatives, and road hauliers to ensure supply to internal and external customers.
- Budget management and cost control of quarry operations.
- Liaise with internal and external customers on clay quality and production issues.
- Manage quality assurance and environmental systems.
- Estates management, including landscaping, restoration, and aftercare activities.
- Analyze extraction and ceramic data to develop and achieve key targets and objectives.
- Project manage defined capex projects.
- Participate in quarry health, safety, and environmental audits.
- Manage training requirements of the quarry team.
- Participate in quarry plant and water discharge best practice.
- Establish and track relevant KPIs to improve operational performance.
- Lead and support a continuous improvement culture in operational management.
- Collaborate with Geology, Ceramics Technology, Factory, Planning & Estates teams on raw material optimization projects.
- A recognized quarry management qualification.
- Enrollment in IOQ/IOM3 quarry CPD program.
- Practical experience in managing large-scale quarry operations.
- A recognized geological/mining qualification.
- Demonstrable quarry management experience.
- High degree of computer literacy and numeric skills, with proficiency in Microsoft applications.
- Leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate.
