Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze market conditions, supply-demand dynamics, and pricing trends to identify trading opportunities and risks.
- Manage and optimize SSE's energy portfolio by balancing supply and demand positions, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and company strategies.
- Assess and manage risks associated with market positions, ensuring alignment with SSE's risk management framework and trading limits.
- Work closely with internal teams, including forecasting, operations, and risk management, to align trading strategies and enhance overall business performance.
Requirements:
- Deep understanding of energy markets, including real-time trading, market mechanisms, and regulatory environments.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the GB and Ireland energy markets is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
- A strong attention to detail, comfortable working with numbers and common software packages.
- Experience with trading platforms, analytical tools, and data visualization software, coupled with strong numerical and quantitative skills.
- Proven ability to make quick, confident decisions in high-pressure situations, with a focus on optimizing outcomes and managing risk.
SSE's Energy Markets team is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net-zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimizer, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios).
This role enables SSE to focus its investment in energy markets capabilities (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics, Settlements and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence, with these enhanced capabilities supporting value creation and decision making across the SSE Group.
