Pitch Maintenance Specialist

The Football Association is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Pitch Maintenance Specialist to collaborate with the Grounds Manager and the Grounds team in ensuring the Wembley pitch is maintained and prepared to the highest standards for all events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the pitch meets universal playing standards for all sports events hosted at Wembley, as established by governing bodies such as FA, UEFA, IRB, NFL, and FIFA.
  • Follow predefined maintenance schedules to uphold surface quality.
  • Maintain all pitch-related equipment according to manufacturer guidelines for optimal performance.
  • Coordinate pitch logistics in line with the events calendar, including the setup of pitch protection and rehearsal scheduling.
  • Work alongside Pitch Contractors to restore the pitch as required by the event schedule.
  • Carry out daily operations such as mowing, aeration, and fertilization as directed by the Grounds Manager or Senior Groundsperson.
  • Operate all grounds machinery to maintain the pitch to exceptional standards.
  • Utilize data collection programs to monitor pitch conditions.
  • Assist in managing matchday staff and lead pre/post-event activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as necessary to adapt to changing priorities within the FA Group.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures to maintain health, safety, and wellbeing standards.
  • Complete a DBS check as part of the FA's commitment to safety in football.
Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:
  • Certification in Grounds Management.
  • Proven experience in maintaining sports pitches.
  • Understanding of the events industry, including flexibility for unsocial hours and weekends.
  • Strong knowledge of pitch maintenance equipment.
  • Familiarity with various turf and synthetic surfaces.
  • Basic understanding of plant nutrition.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • A collaborative team player eager to develop professionally.
Desirable:
  • Relevant technical qualifications (e.g., GMA level 2/3, City & Guilds).
  • General knowledge of football and sports.
  • Health & Safety qualifications are preferred.
  • NPTC accreditation (PA1, PA2, PA6) is advantageous but not essential.
