This role is designed to provide clinical oversight for our growing research initiatives, supervise junior research nursing staff, and assist the team in executing top-tier research.

Your primary focus will be on ensuring participant safety and satisfaction, maintaining high standards of research nursing practices, and overseeing clinical management across a diverse range of studies, including both interventional and observational research.

You will take charge of managing your team's research portfolio, which includes reviewing study protocols, assessing amendments, identifying resource needs, and proactively developing strategies for trials with low recruitment rates. You will also have line management duties in accordance with organizational HR policies, actively participating in the recruitment, training, and mentorship of all team members.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all research activities prioritize patient safety and adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and relevant regulations.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate expert nursing care for research participants, providing support to those who may be recruited into clinical trials.
  • Coordinate and manage a portfolio of clinical research, collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure ongoing care and support for patients involved in trials.
  • Supervise the safe administration of experimental treatments and monitor both expected and unexpected side effects.
  • Facilitate informed decision-making for patients regarding their participation in clinical trials by providing comprehensive information and acting as their advocate.
  • Oversee departmental clinical trials, which includes obtaining ethical approvals, data collection, patient interviews, and assisting in data analysis.

Key Duties

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Work independently to manage and coordinate your own clinical research portfolio while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ensure patients are fully informed before participating in any clinical research and play a crucial role in obtaining informed consent.

  • Coordinate the collection and safe storage of biological samples required for clinical trials.
  • Administer trial medications safely and maintain knowledge of legal requirements regarding pharmacovigilance.
  • Maintain accurate records and develop data collection tools as needed.
  • Adhere to GCP principles and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Act as a clinical mentor to junior research staff, exemplifying excellence in clinical research.
  • Represent the Trust at external events, such as conferences and committees, as an expert in research nursing.
  • Report any adverse incidents to the appropriate governance teams.
  • Facilitate effective communication within the clinical team.
  • Manage resources and equipment in accordance with research policies and budgets.

Professional Development:

  • Ensure ongoing training in clinical trials is completed and updated as necessary.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional growth and stay informed about developments in clinical research.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with first-level NMC registration.
  • Significant experience in research, clinical trials, and mentoring.

Skills:
