Position Overview:

This is an excellent opportunity for two enthusiastic communications professionals to become integral members of the Corporate Communications team at Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.

As a vital part of a compact team, you will engage in various communication activities, including social media management, digital outreach, media relations, and publication efforts. You will report directly to the Corporate Communications Manager.

We are looking for a composed, motivated, and proactive individual, preferably with a background in communications, public relations, or journalism. You should be adept at quick thinking and comfortable in a fast-paced environment, interacting with both local and national media. Exceptional written communication skills and a keen news sense are essential, along with the ability to cultivate strong working relationships across all levels of the organization to ensure the delivery of high-quality internal and external communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Craft and disseminate critical messages through various channels to engage our communities, fulfilling our obligation to inform and alert the public.
  • Support innovative campaigns by creating social media content and developing materials that promote safety awareness.
  • Respond swiftly to media inquiries, providing information about incidents and coordinating interviews while safeguarding and enhancing the reputation of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Proactively identify and promote newsworthy stories that showcase the dedication and positive contributions of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service personnel.
  • Represent the Corporate Communications team at various events and maintain strong partnerships with local media and other communication teams to foster collaborative efforts.
  • Assist in delivering essential internal communications to keep our workforce well-informed.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in managing time and workloads effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in creating and managing communications for diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in handling media inquiries, facilitating interviews, and utilizing multiple communication channels, particularly during significant incidents.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in producing press releases, social media content, and other communications materials.
  • A proven team player with experience in collaborative projects to achieve objectives.
  • Competent in researching and compiling information for reports and communications.
  • Experience with website content management systems.
  • Proficient in design software such as Canva, InDesign, or PremierPro.
  • Experienced in using social media platforms like Instagram, Nextdoor, and TikTok for content creation.
