Position Overview:
This role is designed to support the Senior Curator: Collections and Heritage, Public Programme Manager, and Director of Arts and Heritage in enhancing The Cheltenham Trust's reputation as a premier regional institution that offers historically significant and socially pertinent programming while ensuring exceptional care of its collections.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development:

  • Facilitate increased accessibility to the collections, particularly focusing on social history, world cultures, and archaeology.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community members to unlock the educational potential of the collections through exhibitions and digital access.
  • Partner with the Senior Curator: Collections and Heritage to conceptualize and execute innovative, visitor-centered exhibition projects.
  • Engage in co-production with communities to interpret social history collections, fostering participatory projects that encourage storytelling.
  • Work alongside the public programming team to devise new methods for interpreting collections and enhancing digital audience engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of educational resources in collaboration with the learning and engagement team.

Collections Management:

  • Ensure the preservation and management of collections to maximize public benefit and long-term conservation.
  • Support the formulation and execution of policies related to research, acquisitions, and documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with museum accreditation standards and ensure collections are managed according to best practices.
  • Stay informed about trends and developments in the museum and gallery sector.

Essential Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Proven experience working with social history collections.
  • Strong understanding of contemporary social history and its implications.
  • Commitment to addressing issues of decolonization within collections.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in an accessible manner.
  • Experience in project management and delivering successful curatorial initiatives.

Salary and Terms:
This is a part-time, permanent position with a competitive salary.
