Job Description

NES Fircroft is seeking a highly skilled Yeast Technical Expert to join their team in Bracknell. This is a 3-year PAYE contract opportunity that requires expertise in yeast-based technologies and heterologous gene expression.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, execute, and communicate the impact of yeast-based heterologous gene expression approaches to cross-indication project support.
  • Identify, prioritize, and design advances in yeast-based technologies to support lead generation activities.
  • Plan and execute transgenic and library-based experiments using bioinformatics and molecular biology design software, automation, and laboratory microbiological containment facilities.
  • Analyze existing omics datasets and present complex external data to enable decisions on the work program content, procedures, or problem resolution.
  • Develop and expand knowledge of own scientific discipline through reading and seeking to broaden understanding of other scientific disciplines.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with functional colleagues to ensure effective two-way exchange of ideas.
  • Produce and accurately record all results to agreed company standards.
  • Maintain high standards of HSE compliance, including following all risk assessments, reporting of safety incidents, and supporting the lab stewards community when requested.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated independence in progressing scientific projects in own area of expertise.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the discipline of microbiology and molecular biology to respond to non-routine situations and choose the best solution or approach from a range of options.
  • 2-4 years of working experience in a scientific laboratory in molecular biology, genetics, or biochemistry, preferably with experience of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other fungi.
  • Ability to communicate scientific work (reports and presentations) in a manner appropriate to the customer/audience.
  • Experience and skills in using Bioinformatic tools, literature search tools, general information databases, and Microsoft-based document and communication software. Experience handling large and varied datasets.
  • Basic understanding of plant-microbe interactions and the implications of plant science to laboratory experiments in which plant pathogens are characterized.
  • Good planning and organizing skills.
  • Adaptability and tenacity in the face of challenges.
  • Identifies problems and proposes new ideas to improve.
  • Leads by example and takes personal responsibility.
  • Motivates others and provides support and feedback on performance.
  • Identifies the differing needs of people and adjusts approach to influence them.
  • Is constructive in approach to change affecting own area and initiates changes in immediate work place.
Education:
  • Preferably MSc, PhD, or equivalent.
