Job Summary

The successful appointee will be practising autonomously as a Specialty Doctor within the Haematology department to provide patient-centred clinical care. This will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment within an agreed scope of practice throughout the specialty.

Main Duties
  • Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to support the management of patients with Haematology disorders and particularly Haemato-oncology care across UHB.
  • Use expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning to appropriately treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
  • Support the HGS rota for consultative referrals and new acute presentations to Haematology, offering senior advice to trainees but also supported by Consultants on-call and the AOS service.
  • Participate in weekly outpatient clinics and offer support to day case units for patient reviews and prescribing chemotherapy.
  • Contribute to the integrated Haemato-oncology Clinical MDT, plus monthly quality meetings, weekly educational sessions, and mortality and morbidity meetings.
  • Depending on experience, there is opportunity to support laboratory haematology, including blood film morphology.
  • Ensure that high standards of all documentation are maintained, with accurate, complete, and up-to-date information regarding patient care kept in accordance with Trust standards.
