Job Description

**Head of Science Opportunity**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Science to join our team at a reputable school in Surrey. As a key member of our education team, you will be responsible for leading and managing the Science department, ensuring the delivery of an engaging Science curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • **Lead and Manage the Science Department**: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Science department, ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive Science curriculum that meets the needs of all students.
  • **Provide Strategic Direction**: Provide guidance and support to Science teachers, fostering a culture of excellence and promoting a positive learning environment.
  • **Monitor and Evaluate Student Progress**: Regularly monitor and evaluate student progress in Science, implementing intervention strategies as required to ensure students achieve their full potential.
  • **Collaborate with Colleagues**: Work closely with colleagues to develop innovative teaching and learning resources, promoting a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • **Promote a Positive Learning Environment**: Uphold the school's values and promote a positive learning environment that encourages students to thrive and succeed.
  • **Maintain Accurate Records**: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and achievements, ensuring that student data is up-to-date and secure.

Requirements

  • **Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)**: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with a specialization in Science or a related field.
  • **Postgraduate Degree**: Possess a postgraduate degree in Science or Science Education, preferably with a strong background in curriculum development and leadership.
  • **Significant Experience**: Have significant experience teaching Science, ideally within a secondary school setting, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality Science education.
  • **Leadership and Management Skills**: Demonstrate strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve their full potential.
  • **Excellent Communication Skills**: Possess excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
