Job Description

Sushi Chef I Role

The Sushi Chef I position is an entry-level role that serves as a developmental opportunity for individuals to learn and master the skills required to succeed in the culinary industry. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for preparing traditional Japanese sushi rice, chopping, slicing, and filleting various types of fish and vegetables, while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cutting, slicing, and filleting different types of fish and vegetables
  • Inspecting the quality of fruits, vegetables, and fish used to prepare sushi dishes and informing the STL when quality is sub-standard
  • Preparing various types of sushi dishes according to established guidelines on quality, portion size, presentation, and food safety
  • Maintaining a clean work environment to prevent food contamination
  • Reporting any problems with kitchen equipment to the manager on duty
  • Sterilizing all utensils, instruments, and equipment used in sushi preparation before every use
  • Greeting and communicating with customers to ensure they feel valued as our customers

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months of experience in the food service industry; sushi rolling experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Valid food handler's license with sound knowledge of food safety regulations
  • The ability to stand for long periods of time
  • The ability to work under pressure with sound judgment
