The strategic sourcing function plays a vital role in ensuring the provision of appropriate products and services at competitive prices, while aligning with our broader strategic goals, including Net Zero and Social Value initiatives.

The Sourcing Buyer position is integral to Foodbuy, facilitating the execution of our strategic sourcing activities. The primary objective of this team is to formulate and implement strategies that deliver value for all clients by effectively managing categories or expenditures based on predetermined triggers. By adhering to the Foodbuy Procurement Process (FPF) and collaborating with category development, CBM, and supply chain teams, we strive for sourcing excellence that clearly demonstrates value for our clients. Annually, we engage in market activities for over £250 million in spending across our clientele, presenting a significant opportunity to influence our supply chain positively.

This role also involves extensive collaboration with our Category and Account teams, as well as the broader organization, to achieve our commercial KPIs, work on strategic initiatives with far-reaching impacts, and represent Foodbuy in the broader market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead strategic and tactical initiatives, delivering results on sourcing projects.
  • Enhance your procurement and purchasing skills through the Foodbuy Procurement Framework.
  • Utilize Scanmarket, our online strategic sourcing platform, to ensure compliance with internal governance and external audits.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams, collaborating to identify future value creation opportunities.
  • Elevate the visibility of Strategic Sourcing activities and outcomes by creating platforms to communicate our successes internally and to our clients.
  • Analyze market trends and insights related to best-in-class procurement practices, applying these learnings to our processes to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Develop and sustain a robust internal and external network, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the ethical and safe sourcing of high-quality products and services.
  • Promote the safe, ethical, environmental, and local credentials of categories, products, and services.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end supply chain within retail, foodservice, or FMCG sectors.
  • Strong decision-making abilities with sound commercial acumen, comfortable working under pressure.
  • Experience in supplier negotiations.
  • Proven track record of cost reduction in challenging market conditions.
  • Demonstrated strategic procurement capabilities that extend beyond tactical tenders.
  • Ability to operate effectively under tight timelines and deadlines.
  • Confident in presenting ideas and strategies.
  • Skilled influencer, willing to challenge at all levels of seniority.
  • Evidence of cross-functional collaboration.
