Job Overview

The Operations Manager will report directly to the General Manager and will be tasked with overseeing the comprehensive site operations while ensuring the achievement of operational KPIs in a professional and efficient manner, aligning with the company's budgetary goals and growth aspirations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the performance and management of site operations and personnel to maintain efficiency and compliance with all legal standards and budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure the transport fleet and associated assets are utilized in a financially sustainable manner.
  • Supervise the effective management of warehouse activities.
  • Analyze daily KPIs alongside future planning and month-to-date/year-to-date assessments to maintain cost-effectiveness while meeting service expectations.
  • Guarantee that site operations adhere to the company's Health & Safety policies and all statutory regulations.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to implement effective health and safety initiatives, aiming to minimize damage costs and incidents.
  • Oversee fleet management to ensure an optimal mix of equipment that meets operational needs while complying with legal standards.
  • Manage driver staffing and shift schedules, conducting periodic reviews to align with operational demands.
  • Develop and implement a recruitment, training, and development strategy to support succession planning and optimize talent retention.
  • Continuously assess operations to identify opportunities for cost reduction, enhanced earnings per mile, and maximized revenue and profit.
  • Calculate pricing for new business opportunities in conjunction with the General Manager and Business Development Team.
  • Ensure compliance with current legal requirements and prepare for upcoming legislative changes.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in communication, damage cost reduction, and training to enhance driving efficiency.
  • Monitor tachograph compliance and enforce disciplinary measures in accordance with company policies when necessary.
  • Lead initiatives focused on driver recruitment, retention, and satisfaction.
  • Facilitate regular performance reviews for team members to ensure fair and consistent evaluation.
  • Maintain discipline standards within the department, utilizing the company's disciplinary procedures with HR support.
  • Ensure the effective application of the company's absence management policy.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated management experience in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • Familiarity with warehouse and transport planning systems.
  • Understanding of FMCG industry principles, including cost structures and benefits.
  • Experience in customer and supplier relationship management.
  • Proven commercial and change management expertise.
  • In-depth knowledge of major retailer supply chain requirements.
  • Experience with consolidation and loading operations in the FMCG sector.
  • Strong customer relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
