Position Overview:

We are seeking exceptional talent to join our Trader Development Initiative (TDI), with opportunities available in our London or Rotterdam offices. Role Responsibilities:

The Trader Development Initiative offers a distinctive opportunity for high-caliber candidates to engage in a structured program lasting 2-4 years aimed at developing trading expertise. While prior trading experience is not a prerequisite, candidates should possess demonstrable work experience in a relevant field. The program will be customized based on individual experience and can be expedited for those with pertinent skills. Typical rotations will encompass trading operations, risk assessment, and market analysis, culminating in supervised paper and physical trading experiences. Progress will be continuously evaluated through regular assessments by trading management, with support provided via on-the-job training and mentorship from senior trading professionals, alongside regular training sessions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate shipping operations, liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including inspectors, shipowners, and trading counterparts.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of trading risks, including market, counterparty, and operational risks, and learn effective management and mitigation strategies.
  • Gain insights into commodity markets, employing tools and techniques to analyze each market and translate analytical insights into trading positions.
  • Collaborate closely with Shell assets to maximize value throughout the entire value chain.
  • Work in tandem with global teams to identify arbitrage opportunities.
  • Learn to execute both physical and paper trades under the guidance of senior traders.
  • Understand how to formulate trading strategies and establish trading frameworks.

Candidate Requirements:

While trading experience is not mandatory, a Bachelor's Degree or higher is required, along with proven experience in Market Risk, Commercial Operations, Quantitative/Analytics, or other relevant roles within a financial services context.

  • Commercial Insight: A keen understanding of global energy markets is essential, demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit, self-motivation, and commercial awareness. A passion for trading and a drive to uncover opportunities for value creation are vital.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong numerical and analytical capabilities are necessary. Candidates should be adept at processing large volumes of information from diverse sources, identifying relevant details, and synthesizing data to develop critical insights and trading strategies.
  • Adaptability: The trading environment is fast-paced, requiring quick thinking and decision-making even in uncertain situations. Candidates should be comfortable shifting between micro and macro perspectives.
  • Team Collaboration: This role thrives in a collaborative atmosphere where teamwork is essential. Candidates should be able to adjust their communication style to engage effectively with colleagues and stakeholders globally.
  • Accountability: In trading, calculated risks and thoughtful decision-making are crucial. Candidates should demonstrate responsibility for their choices and adhere to all relevant regulations, embodying Shell's values of honesty, integrity, and respect.
