Job Summary

The Director of Estates and Facilities will have accountability for:

  • Projects and Infrastructure: Overseeing the development and implementation of strategic projects and initiatives to enhance the University's estates and facilities.
  • Estates Operations: Managing the day-to-day operations of the estates and facilities function, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services.
  • Property Assets: Responsible for the management and maintenance of the University's property assets, including buildings, land, and infrastructure.
  • Accommodation and Commercial Services: Leading the University's Accommodation and Commercial Services, encompassing all aspects of University accommodation, facilities management, conferencing and events, community services, University retail, and security.
  • Health and Safety Service: Ensuring the University's health and safety policies and procedures are implemented and maintained, and that the University's estates and facilities are safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Business Resilience: Developing and implementing strategies to ensure business continuity and resilience, including emergency planning and crisis management.

Key Responsibilities

The Director will:

  • Balance strategic leadership with operational delivery, ensuring the successful implementation of the University's estates and facilities development programme.
  • Build strategic partnerships with stakeholders to add value and drive innovation.
  • Work closely with the University Executive, Council, and Senate to deliver a complex portfolio of development projects.
  • Oversee the management of all aspects of the Estates and Facilities function, including new build, refurbishment, and building development projects.
  • Drive value for money and ensure the efficient use of resources.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in a higher education or related sector.
  • Strong strategic leadership and management skills, with the ability to balance operational delivery with strategic vision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing budgets and resources, with a track record of delivering value for money.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance.
