The successful candidate will possess a background in building or engineering and demonstrate relevant skills and knowledge acquired through several years of experience in a related field. This position offers the chance to engage with a variety of large-scale systems typically found in a significant healthcare environment, including:

  • General power systems
  • Lighting systems, including emergency lighting
  • Nurse call systems
  • Hot and cold water systems
  • Drainage systems

  • Medical gas systems

Main Responsibilities

All candidates must exhibit a positive, friendly, and cooperative demeanor while being adaptable to meet the service requirements of the organization. The role will necessitate the ability to use initiative in addressing a range of straightforward problem-solving scenarios to ensure satisfactory outcomes while adjusting to the evolving demands of the position.

In addition to performing various planned maintenance tasks, successful candidates will assist engineering and building trade staff in their daily operations, which include:

  • Repair of all engineering and building-related fabric, equipment, and installations

Job Responsibilities

The role encompasses three primary functions within the Facilities Management team:

  1. To assist tradespeople in their maintenance, repair, and installation tasks, ensuring the effective upkeep of engineering and building services.
  2. To perform non-complex maintenance and repair activities across a wide range of engineering and building systems.
  3. To participate in the established maintenance assistant shift pattern and support the completion of both planned and reactive maintenance tasks.

The post holder will also be required to engage in the winter on-call rota and undertake overtime as necessary, with appropriate compensation provided.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Awareness of relevant engineering and building regulations.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or building systems typically found in a large healthcare setting.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Capability to manage and adhere to deadlines.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for engineering or building tasks, with a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Proficiency in using power and hand tools.
  • Adept at evaluating options and selecting the most suitable course of action.

Physical Requirements:

Essential:

  • Ability to travel and work at various sites.
  • Capacity to engage in moderate physical activities throughout the workday.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring short bursts of intense effort.
  • Experience with regular moving and handling tasks.
  • High level of physical dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

Experience:

  • Experience in maintaining or installing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or building systems in a large healthcare environment.

Desirable:

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills at level 1 or equivalent.
  • Certificates supporting relevant experience in the industry.
  • Formal completion of a relatable level 3 qualification or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Engineering.
  • Approved forklift operator license.
  • Recognized water jetting association accredited training.
  • Legionella awareness qualification.
