Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the urology department for a 12-month fixed-term role. This position is designed to spearhead a pioneering initiative aimed at establishing a same-day, nurse-led rapid access diagnostic service for urology-related cancers.
This innovative approach to immediate diagnostics represents a significant advancement for the healthcare services in the region, providing a unique chance to contribute to the leadership and evolution of a new diagnostic framework.
The primary objective of this role is to enhance the delivery of care in alignment with national cancer waiting time standards, utilizing nurse-led methodologies that adhere to best practice protocols.
This is a full-time position requiring commitment to core working hours from Monday to Friday, with responsibilities distributed across multiple healthcare facilities.
Key Responsibilities
As one of two Advanced Nurse Practitioner roles within the urology service, you will be tasked with leading nurse-led initiatives, including the management of independent one-stop biopsy, flexible cystoscopy, and results clinics.

Role Responsibilities
This position necessitates close collaboration with urology clinical teams, cancer leads, nursing management, cancer nurse specialists, and pathway navigators to deliver exemplary nurse-led care to patients on cancer pathways.
You will independently manage clinics and lead innovative initiatives aimed at service enhancement. Responsibilities include triaging suspected urology cancer referrals and working in tandem with cancer navigators to ensure performance metrics are achieved.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the ongoing service improvement and transformation efforts within the urology department, gaining valuable experience in implementing service changes that yield demonstrable benefits.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential Qualifications
- Registered with the NMC as a first-level nurse
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field, or currently pursuing
- Qualification and experience in teaching and assessment
- Specialized training in urology or oncology
- Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Oncology certification
- Counseling diploma
- Non-medical prescribing qualification
- IRMER certification
- Advanced communication training
- Surgical Care Practitioner training or equivalent
- Peri-operative practitioner training
