Indirect Tax Specialist

We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our EMEA VAT team as an Indirect Tax Specialist. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to engage with the dynamic interplay of business, finance, and technology within one of the world's leading financial institutions. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse global team dedicated to supporting the EMEA region.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and provide guidance on intercompany relationships within JPM, focusing on their impact on revenue and expenses across various products.
- Collaborate with the tax technology initiative to ensure that VAT considerations for intercompany services are effectively implemented.
- Engage with cross-functional teams to enhance the understanding and management of VAT risks associated with intercompany expenses.
- Assess expense allocation processes and partner with finance, business, and tax teams to advise on VAT recovery and compliance strategies.
- Develop expertise in UK and other EMEA VAT regulations, keeping informed of legislative changes to ensure compliance.
- Provide training and advice to internal stakeholders, particularly those involved in processing intercompany attributions.
- Clearly communicate VAT risks to non-tax colleagues in a concise manner.
- Review tax compliance submissions for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify and escalate risks within the team as necessary.
- Work alongside external tax advisors and collaborate with global Corporate Tax colleagues, including those specializing in transfer pricing and direct taxes, as well as non-tax departments such as Business, Legal, Finance, and Operations.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in VAT advisory.
- Comprehensive understanding of UK/EU VAT principles.
- Familiarity with VAT compliance requirements and processes.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with the ability to thrive in a team environment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to develop commercially viable solutions.
- A proactive learner with a positive demeanor and professionalism.
- Capability to work independently while managing multiple projects and workloads.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Accounting or Tax qualification, such as CTA via the indirect tax route, is preferred.
- VAT advisory experience at a managerial level within a Big 4 firm or equivalent in-house role.
- Knowledge of VAT issues specific to the financial services sector is advantageous.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant applications is desirable.
