Position Overview

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is committed to enhancing its workforce by increasing the number of Nursing Associates within our organization. The Nursing Associate role is a dynamic position designed to connect the responsibilities of Registered Nurses and Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs). Apprentices will engage in a comprehensive two-year program aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver exceptional, compassionate care to our patients. Throughout this apprenticeship, students will operate at a level above that of a HCSW and will achieve registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council upon completion. The training combines academic study with practical experience across various healthcare environments.

Apprentices will primarily be assigned to one specific ward or department and are expected to work a range of shifts, including nights, long days, and weekends. Additionally, they will gain experience in diverse health and social care settings, which may require travel and adaptability to different shift patterns based on placement needs.

From an academic perspective, apprentices will pursue a Level 5 Apprenticeship (Nursing Associate) / Foundation Degree in collaboration with the University of West London (UWL), with designated study days as outlined in the UWL curriculum.

Successful candidates will need to complete the Care Certificate prior to starting the Nursing Associate program if they have not done so already.

We are looking to recruit Nursing Associates for various ward areas and departments. Applicants will be asked to specify their preferred ward or department during the interview process.

Interview Process

Candidates selected for consideration will participate in two interview stages:

  • An initial interview conducted via MS Teams with staff from the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust.
  • A final selection interview held jointly with the University of West London via MS Teams.

Application Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent upon satisfactory references, occupational health assessments, and DBS checks. Candidates must provide evidence of meeting apprenticeship standards, including qualifications in Maths and English and residency in the UK for the past three years.

Essential criteria include:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English at grades 4-9 or equivalent Level 2 functional skills.
  • Evidence of these qualifications must be submitted prior to the selection day.
  • Full-time availability is required.
  • Compliance with Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) regulations regarding residency and work eligibility.

Upon receiving an interview invitation, candidates will need to upload relevant documents (certificates for English and Maths, and proof of identity) for verification.
